The B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences is a major designed for students who intend to pursue the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) at the USC Campus of the South Carolina College of Pharmacy. Students must be accepted into thePharm.D. program at the USC Campus of the South Carolina College of Pharmacy their junior or senior year to meet the requirements for the B.S.
The B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences is awarded at the end of the spring semester of the second year in the Pharm.D. program.

The sequencing of the required science courses is particularly important for ensuring that they can be completed before entering the Pharm.D. program.
Degree Requirements (minimum 128 Hours)
A grade of C or higher is required for all coursework. The Pre-Pharmacy work must total at least 66 hours.

1. Pre-pharmacy Carolina Core Requirements (32-45 Hours)
CMW: Effective, Engaged and Persuasive Communication: Writing (6 Hours)
ARP: Analytical Reasoning and Problem-Solving (6-7 Hours)
SCI: Scientific Literacy (8 Hours)
GFL: Global Citizenship and Multicultural Understanding: Foreign Language (0-6 Hours)
- Demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language by achieving a score of two or higher on the foreign language placement test or by completing one Foreign Language through 110 or 121. (American Sign Language DOES NOT count toward the foreign language requirement).
GHS: Global Citizenship and Multicultural Understanding: Historical Thinking (3 Hours)
- Any approved Carolina Core GHS course
GSS: Global Citizenship and Multicultural Understanding: Social Sciences (3 Hours)
AIU: Aesthetic and Interpretive Understanding (3 Hours)
- Any approved Carolina Core AIU course
CMS: Effective, Engaged, and Persuasive Communication: Spoken Component (0-3 Hours*)
INF: Information Literacy (0-3 Hours*)
- Any approved overlay or stand-alone Carolina Core INF course
VSR: Values, Ethics, and Social Responsibility (0-3 Hours*)
- Any approved overlay or stand-alone Carolina Core INF course
Note:
* The combined CMS, INF and VSR requirements must include at least three hours not being used to satisfy Carolina Core requirements outside those three areas. SAEL 200 counts for both CMS and VSR. ENGL 102 counts for IMS if taken at USC Columbia or regional campus Spring 2013 or later.
2. Additional Pre-Pharmacy Requirements (31-34 Hours)
Note:
Students may substitute ECON 224 with ECON 221 or ECON 224 .
An additional elective course will be needed if the Pre-Pharmacy hour total is less than 66
3. Professional Requirements (62 Hours)
The final 62 credit hours required for the B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences degree are earned after admission to the South Carolina College of Pharmacy and during the first two years of the professional Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.
